Ethiopia’s referee Lidya Abebe Tafesse has been appointed to officiate at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022.
The experienced referee has been appointed as one of the 16 Video Match Officials (VAR) for the competition slated for October 11-30th, 2022 in India.
Tafesse is the only match official selected from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) region to officiate at the world competition. Early this week FIFA announced 14 referees, 28 assistant referees and 16 VAR officials appointed for the competition.
The other officials from Africa selected for the competition include; Bouchra Karboubi – Morocco, Maria River – Mauritius (referees), Fatiha Jermoumi, Soukaina Hamdi – Morocco, Queency Victoire – Mauritius, Yara Said Atef – Egypt (assistant referees).
Tanzania are the only team from the CECAFA region that will play at the tournament, while Nigeria and Morocco are the other African teams.
