She Corporate Football Club have been crowned champions of the 2021/22 FUFA Women Super League after playing out a goalless draw with second-placed Kampala Queens FC on May 20 to seal the title on the final day of the season.
Although the top-of-the-table title decider saw both sides share the spoils, it lived up to expectations and ended with She Corporate FC celebrating their first-ever league title, thanks to their superior goal difference. They ended the season with the same points as Kampala FC, 39.
“This is a dream come true. Our players have worked really hard to win this title which was decided on the last day,” She Corporate FC coach Hassan Issa Yusuf told CAFOnline.
“I want to thank the players for the hard work and management of the team for playing their part.”
She Corporate FC will now shift their attention to the regional CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers which will take place in Tanzania.
“We know qualifying for the Champions League qualifiers is one step, but we want to prepare well so that we can compete for that one place to make it to the African tournament,” the coach added.
She Corporate FC players Phiona Nabbumba and Daphine Nyayenga were named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and best goalkeeper of the season respectively, while the top scorer award went to Lady Doves striker Fazila Ikwaput who finished the season with 15 goals, same number of goals as UCU Lady Cardinals’ Hasifa Nassuna who scored a hat trick against Uganda Martyrs WFC on the final day.
Having registered the least number of bookings (9 yellow cards), Rines SS WFC who survived relegation on the final day of the league received the Fair Play award.
